Frequently Asked Questions

Do all Crashybara search results contain event data recorders?

Yes. All search results contain at least one event data recorder per case. Cases that use SMASH impact severity estimates are not included in Crashybara.

Does this replace the need for an accident reconstructionist?

Absolutely not. Crashybara is merely a tool to export crash test information and images to a PowerPoint format as quickly as possible. It is up to the accident reconstructionist to interpret the data and make an impact severity calculation.

What if there are additional search variables that I want added to Crashybara?

Crashybara is launched with a basic set of search variables. We will collect user feedback to determine the variables that are added to the search interface in the future. So, speak up if you want something!

Are new crash tests added to Crashybara from CISS every year?

Yes! As NHTSA releases new CISS crash tests, we will work to incorporate them into Crashybara as quickly as possible.

Do you plan to add the NASS database?

Adding the NASS database is one of the first improvements planned for Crashybara. If there is enough interest in Crashybara, NASS will be checked for feasibility and added as soon as possible.

Does this place an added burden on NHTSA servers?

No. All information that you see on Crashybara is already stored on our servers. No requests are made to NHTSA servers in real-time. This could theoretically reduce the amount of server requests made to NHTSA, if Crashybara were to become popular.
